Train Small Groups

To develop the knowledge, skills and attitude for a workplace trainer to conduct effective on the job training and to facilitate knowledge based sessions.

Objectives:

This program has been designed to help you:

  • Gain insight and an understanding of your personal learning-style preference.

  • Incorporate the principles of adult learning and apply these to a training session.

  • Identify the need for skill enhancement and on the job training needs through the application of a functional job analysis tool.

Coaching and Performance Management Program

This program presents an opportunity to enhance your current effectiveness in leading and managing individuals and teams by expanding your range of skills in the areas of coaching and conducting performance appraisals to ensure regular formal feedback is carried out.

Objectives:

The Coaching and Performance Management program has been designed to help you:

  • Develop specific coaching skills and techniques to apply for individuals and teams

  • Develop supervisors/managers who are able to facilitate the development, learning and performance of individuals and teams.

  • Gain insight and an understanding of the impact of your own personal style and values in relation to coaching to provide a foundation to develop your own ability as a coach.

  • Better recognise the critical components principles underlying effective coaching as a tool leading to continuous performance improvement.

  • To practice focused, disciplined processes for coaching to ensure successful outcomes in each coaching intervention.

  • To help you develop self-awareness about your own strengths and weaknesses in coaching and performance appraisal.

Outcomes:

On completion of this program, it is expected that you will better manage the performance, learning and development of individuals and teams you manage. Community Leadership Program

Building capacity with people from developing countries now working indirectly with Australian mining companies. The program builds business and communication skills and behaviours that enhance the efficiency and understanding of business practices. The program addresses the cultural differences that can create a challenge in merging western business and a developing country.

This workshop has been designed for community leaders and representatives to enhance their understanding of how to initiate, develop and execute projects through a Project Management Structure. It has also been designed to influence and direct resource allocation to maximise outcomes.

Occupational Health, Safety and Emergency Management

Discovery Learning recognise the significant challenge mining operations face in balancing production, cost, environment and safety management as a single imperative. This demands the consolidation of a positive safety culture and systems approach that will maximise protection for the workforce, the environment, equipment and other assets, without removing the ability to perform the work effectively.

Our Senior Consultant Phil Walker has 23 years experience in open pit and underground mining, including current and extensive management and training experience at operations level in the areas of OHS and Emergency Response. Phil has experience in Australia, Papua New Guinea and Tanzania.

Emergency Response Team Training and Development 

A key aspect of emergency management is the ability to be able to respond safely, promptly and effectively to an emergency situation using the resources available.   

The core modules of the Discovery Learning Mines Rescue Program are designed to introduce and develop the above abilities through an integrated program including:

  • Industrial Rope Rescue (Heights & Depths Access and Extrication)

  • Self Contained Breathing Apparatus - Open &/or Closed circuit type. (Site dependent)

  • Industrial Fire Fighting including first response teams.

  • Vehicle Entrapment Extrication and heavy rescue (Using hydraulic and pneumatic powered equipment)

  • Emergency Response Team Leadership & Team Development.
